Aiden Pleterski, self-proclaimed "Crypto King," is on trial at the Ontario Superior Court of Justice facing fraud and money laundering charges. A senior forensic accountant with the Ontario Securities Commission testified that between 2020 and 2022, investors contributed $36.3 million, with nearly half allegedly diverted to personal expenses including $5.6 million on luxury cars, $4.9 million in credit card payments, $870,000 on travel and private jets, and $3.7 million transferred to his parents.
Prosecutors allege Pleterski guaranteed investment returns but never executed trades as promised. Testimony revealed that investor funds were never transferred to FXChoice, the trading platform specified in contracts, with only approximately $113,000 flowing to other forex and cryptocurrency platforms. While Pleterski paid investors about $16.1 million in purported returns, prosecutors contend these payments were funded by new investor capital rather than legitimate trading profits. Pleterski denies all charges, and the case remains ongoing.
