Bitcoin options now account for nearly 60% of total Bitcoin derivatives open interest, up from approximately 50% at the start of 2026, according to Volmex, issuer of the Bitcoin volatility index BVIV. The shift reflects growing demand for risk management tools over directional price speculation.
Total Bitcoin derivatives open interest reached roughly $129 billion as of last Friday. U.S. Bitcoin ETF-related options contributed about $36 billion, with BlackRock's IBIT options alone representing $35 billion—up from $11 billion in January 2025. Including options on native crypto platforms, the overall Bitcoin options market stands at approximately $76 billion, with ETF options comprising about 47% of that total.
