Chinese equities closed sharply lower on October 29 as the ChiNext Index dropped 4.45% and the STAR Market index fell more than 4%, while the Shanghai Composite declined 0.82%. Combined turnover across the Shanghai and Shenzhen exchanges reached 1.56 trillion yuan, down 72 billion yuan from the previous session, with over 4,700 stocks posting losses. Computing power hardware names led the decline, with T&S Communications touching limit-down intraday and Eoptolink, Shijia Photons, Robotechnik, Biwin Storage, and Changyingtong all falling more than 10%. On the upside, banks bucked the broader selloff—ICBC and China Construction Bank hit record highs, pushing the combined market capitalization of the four major state-owned banks above 10 trillion yuan, while Bank of Qingdao surged more than 8%.
