Anthropic has released a research preview of Claude Duet, a proactive AI assistant powered by Opus 5.5, with a waitlist now open for early access. The standalone app is available on iOS and Android, with desktop access via claude.ai. Unlike traditional chatbots, Claude Duet operates on an independent cloud computer that can access users' connected applications, deliver daily morning briefings, and continue processing tasks while the user is away. The assistant requires explicit user consent before performing sensitive actions such as sending messages or making payments. During the research preview phase, availability is limited to Claude Pro and Max subscribers in the United States; Team and Enterprise plans are not yet included. Anthropic engineering lead Felix Rieseberg announced the waitlist opening on X on October 22.
