Amazon has announced the discontinuation of its Rufus shopping chatbot, integrating its capabilities into a new AI assistant, "Alexa for Shopping." Launched on May 13, this tool is designed to enhance user shopping experiences by leveraging shopping history and other data to provide personalized assistance. The integration allows Alexa to answer inquiries and perform shopping tasks directly within Amazon's platform.
The new assistant is embedded into Amazon's store search results, offering users a chat window with product information and recommendations. Users can access Alexa for Shopping via the Amazon website, app, or Echo Show devices. Daniel Rausch, head of Amazon's Alexa business, highlighted the tool's advantage over other AI shopping assistants, citing its access to customer reviews and a vast product catalog, which enhances its ability to provide accurate inventory and delivery information.
