Amazon CEO Andy Jassy highlighted the potential of Amazon's in-house chip business during the Q1 earnings call, projecting that if spun off, it could generate $50 billion in annual revenue. Amazon's chip division, now among the top three global data center chip providers, has seen significant demand for its Trainium series. The fourth-generation Trainium chip, set for large-scale release in 18 months, is already nearly fully pre-ordered.
Jassy revealed that Trainium has secured over $225 billion in revenue commitments from major clients like Anthropic and OpenAI. He emphasized that adopting Trainium for inference could save hundreds of billions in CapEx annually and improve profit margins. AWS's model inference service, Amazon Bedrock, already runs most workloads on Trainium, serving over 125,000 customers, including nearly 80% of Fortune 100 companies.
