What Is XDB Chain (XDB)? The Layer 1 Formerly DigitalBits

Key Points

What is XDB Chain? The layer 1 once called DigitalBits. The Inter and Roma story, what its burns show and how to buy XDB safely.

XDB Chain is the layer 1 blockchain that was called DigitalBits until 2023, and XDB is its coin. It's the project whose old name once sat on Inter and Roma shirts, and it isn't XDC, a separate network. XDB jumped about 42% on CoinMarketCap in early November, but buying right after means taking a price set on very little money.

XDB's public burn address received nothing between 4 January and the early-November close, though its network paper says burns run quarterly. Coins sent there can never move again. One launch burn from December 2023 made up about 79% of what that address held. If a shrinking supply is the reason you're looking at XDB, weigh that record before you weigh the pitch.

What Is XDB Chain?

XDB Chain is an open-source layer 1 blockchain built to issue assets and move them, with an order book inside the protocol. Its native coin, XDB, pays transaction fees and covers the small balance every account has to keep. In crypto, XDB usually means this coin, not Oracle's database software or the .xdb file type.

The project's network paper, published in August 2026 by XDBee Labs Limited, replaced a December 2023 whitepaper and is the best place to start. The pitch centres on branded coins, tokens that brands issue to reward customers, and on putting real assets on the chain.

Daniele Mensi, the project's founder and CEO, wrote in a July 2026 post on its news page that marketing narratives had failed to win adoption for the industry and for the project. XDB Chain, he said, would focus on infrastructure for issuing and moving value.

Is XDB Chain the Old DigitalBits?

Yes, it's the same project under a new name. A sponsored release dated 4 October 2023 announced that "Digitalbits blockchain officially becomes XDB CHAIN" and that the Digitalbits Foundation would become the XDB Foundation. The release doesn't mention any club or dispute, and the August 2026 paper never mentions DigitalBits, so the history has to come from elsewhere.

In April 2023 Calcio e Finanza reported that Inter and Roma would take the DigitalBits logo off their shirts over missed payments. For Inter that covered all of the 2022/23 season, and for Roma an instalment due on 31 March. The foundation answered that the contracts were "conclusi con Zytara labs" (signed with Zytara Labs), the company the outlet says owned the brand at the time.

Inter took it to court, petitioning in Milan for an order against Zytara Labs. Inter's accounts list about €31 million overdue, most of it for 2022/23.

A 12 October 2026 report said the order "è diventato definitivo" (has become final) after no opposition was filed, and that Inter was looking for assets to recover "oltre 31 milioni" (more than €31 million).

The order names Zytara Labs as the debtor, though the 2026 report's first line speaks of money due from DigitalBits, the old sponsor. Neither report mentions XDB Chain or says that debt passed to it.

The trigger was a one-day price jump in early November, when XDB closed up about 42% on CoinMarketCap. CoinGecko's daily close shows the same move at about 37%, after a fall the day before on both trackers.

A coin this thin can move a long way in hours, so check a live chart before you act on any figure here.

The market behind the move is tiny. CoinMarketCap counted about $551,000 of volume on the day, up from about $20,000 the day before, with a market cap near $1.1 million. That's one tracker's count, and volume isn't depth, so it can't tell you how much you could sell near that price.

The jump also started close to XDB's all-time low of about $0.000039, which CoinGecko dates to late October.

XDB's website news page, whose newest post dates from 17 July 2026, and its August network paper give no dated cause for the jump. We haven't checked its X, Telegram or Discord.

How Does XDB Chain Work?

XDB Chain runs software derived from the Stellar network, but it's an independent chain with its own ledger and its own governance.

Nodes agree on the ledger through the Stellar Consensus Protocol. Each node names the other nodes it won't proceed without, and agreement forms where those lists overlap. Think of it as a group of people who each name whose sign-off they need before they'll agree.

There's no mining and no staking in the protocol. When nodes can't safely agree the network halts, so the failure you'd notice is downtime and not a split chain. Ledgers close about every five seconds, and a transaction is final when its ledger closes.

A few protocol details matter if you plan to hold XDB.

Protocol detail
What it means for you
Base fee
0.00001 XDB per operation
New account
Must hold 20 XDB
Each extra ledger entry
Adds 10 XDB, returned when you remove it
Other assets
You opt in with a trustline before you can hold one
Liquidity pools
Charge 0.3%, beside the protocol's order book

Entities called anchors hold deposits off-chain and issue a matching credit on the ledger. Like blockchain oracles, they're a trusted link to the world outside the chain, and the paper warns that a credit "is exactly as good as the entity behind it".

Smart contracts are still a plan, since the same paper calls the move to Stellar's Soroban platform "a good-faith plan" and promises no date.

Use was light on the day of the jump. The ledger recorded 507 successful transactions, about one every three minutes. That's a single day, so don't read a trend into it.

XDB Tokenomics

XDB was created with 100 billion coins, and the paper says 80 billion were removed for good at the outset, in what it calls a hard burn. That set a ceiling of 20 billion. A separate address took that 80 billion in December 2023 and had its keys switched off two days later, so the ledger backs it even though the header still prints 100 billion.

Supply in early November 2026
XDB
Maximum supply, per the paper
20,000,000,000
Held at the public burn address
1,264,163,370
Total supply
18,735,836,630
Held in the treasury
1,573,086,063
Circulating supply
17,162,750,567

A burn on this chain is a transfer to an address whose keys have been switched off, so the coins stay visible and can never move.

The public burn address had received nine payments in all, two of them at launch in December 2023. The larger, a billion XDB from the treasury, was about 79% of the address's balance.

The numbered burns draw on branded coins, each of which sets aside up to 2.5% of its supply for them. The seven on record added about 239 million between July 2024 and January 2026, the first six landing on the first day of a quarter. April, July and October 2026 all began with no burn, and the August paper still described burns as quarterly.

We can't tell you burns have ended, because the news page and the paper announce no pause and the last burn post says later events get announced once they're done. We can tell you the rhythm broke.

The treasury held about 1.57 billion XDB, about 8.4% of total supply, on one signing key. That key sent out about 132 million XDB after the January burn, and the paper counts coins as circulating once they leave the treasury.

How to Buy XDB Safely

If you're working out how to buy XDB Chain, there's no contract address to match, so it comes down to a few checks.

  1. Confirm the coin is XDB Chain, ticker XDB, since XDC and Oracle's XDB are different things.

  2. Check the network name and any memo a venue asks for, because those are your safeguards on a native coin.

  3. Fund the minimum, since a new XDB Chain account needs that 20 XDB balance before it can exist.

  4. Move a small amount first, confirm it arrived, then send the rest.

  5. Use a limit order, which fills only at your price or better, because on a market this thin your own order can move the price.

  6. Skip claim pages, and never connect a wallet to one, whatever it promises about old DigitalBits coins.

XDB has no perpetual or order-book spot pair on Phemex. Phemex's futures cover other crypto markets. Futures use leverage, and a leveraged position is closed automatically if losses reach its margin.

What Are the Risks of XDB?

Thin trading. Daily volume ran between about $20,000 and about $120,000 over the last six days of October on CoinMarketCap. A position you can buy on a busy day may be hard to sell on a quiet one.

Burns that lean on branded coins. The last burn's pledged CBPAY tokens went over the counter, in private deals, because the open pairs lacked liquidity. If branded coins can't find buyers, the numbered burns have little to draw on.

One key on the treasury. About 1.57 billion XDB answered to a single key, and the paper says the protocol "does not protect against a compromised key". The ledger shows that key's payments but not what they were for.

Statements that changed. A March 2026 post carries an editor's note saying it "was updated to correct earlier statements about regulatory compliance and token economics". Treat older write-ups of XDB's compliance and supply with care, since some may repeat what the project later corrected.

The old name's legal tail. Inter's asset search keeps the DigitalBits name in the Italian press, even with Zytara Labs as the debtor. New buyers may meet those headlines before they learn the difference.

Is XDB Coin a Good Investment?

We won't call that for you, but we think the tokenomics are the weak point and the sponsorship story distracts from them. A 42% day doesn't answer it. XDB closed early November more than 99.99% below its all-time high of about $0.85, which CoinGecko dates to November 2021.

A long-term case needs tokenized real-world assets and branded coins to produce steady use on this chain, the kind that funds burns again. A new numbered burn and heavier volume across more than one day would be the first signs.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is XDB the same as XDC?

No. XDB is the native coin of XDB Chain, the network once called DigitalBits. XDC is the coin of XDC Network, a separate project. The tickers differ by one letter, so check the full name before you buy.

Where to buy XDB Chain?

Not on Phemex's perpetual or order-book spot markets. XDB trades on other venues, and the chain has its own order book and pools. Wherever you buy, check the network name and any memo first, then start small.

Who runs the XDB network?

XDBee Labs Limited publishes the paper and maintains the reference software and public endpoints. It says it doesn't control consensus, which independently operated nodes produce.

Why does XDB's ledger still show 100 billion?

That field records what was created at genesis, and the project's paper says it doesn't fall when coins burn. The paper's working figures are a 20 billion maximum and about 18.74 billion total.

Bottom Line

The DigitalBits past is easy to find and easy to misread. The debt in that story sits with Zytara Labs, and what should decide your view of XDB is on the chain.

By the early-November close its burn address had taken no payment since 4 January. A new numbered burn would be hard evidence the engine restarted, and until one lands, a 42% day mostly shows you how thin XDB trades.
