What Is Reserve Rights (RSR)? The Token Behind Reserve DTFs

Key Points

What is Reserve Rights? RSR backs and governs Reserve DTFs, and a September 2026 vote set four treasury RSR to burn with each RSR the protocol burns.

Reserve Rights (RSR) is the staking, governance and burn token of the Reserve protocol's DTFs, and in September 2026 its holders voted to burn four treasury RSR for every RSR the protocol burns. Decentralized Token Folios (DTFs) are on-chain baskets of crypto assets, and RSR holders insure some of them and govern others.

That vote makes every protocol burn five times larger. Reserve's Q2 2026 report counted 14.9 million RSR burned, so a quarter at that pace under the new setting would destroy 74.5 million RSR, or 0.0745% of the fixed 100 billion supply. It's a rule holders chose, and by mid-October 2026 no treasury burn under it had reached the chain.

What Is Reserve Rights?

Reserve Rights is an ERC-20 token on Ethereum with a hard cap of 100 billion, and it sits under both of the Reserve protocol's product lines. Yield DTFs are fully backed tokens such as eUSD, a dollar stablecoin whose collateral earns lending yield.

Index DTFs bundle a basket of tokens into one, with room for more than 100 assets on Base, so they behave like crypto index funds that trade on-chain. The Reserve Magnificent 7 DTF (MAG7) and five AI-themed baskets are examples of this kind of Reserve DTF.

Reserve Rights crypto searches also pull up namesakes, from the legal phrase "reservation of rights" to unrelated tokens with Reserve in their names. The project's official domain is reserve.org.

What Does RSR Crypto Do?

RSR crypto does three jobs inside Reserve, and the protocol's RSR documentation sets out each one.

Insurance for Yield DTFs: Holders stake RSR behind one Yield DTF as first-loss capital. If a collateral token defaults, the protocol seizes staked RSR pro rata to cover that DTF's holders. Stakers earn part of the DTF's revenue in RSR. Leaving takes an unstaking delay of about 7 to 30 days. It's a form of crypto staking with real slashing risk.

eUSD shows that cover at work. In its Q3 2026 report, the dollar value of staked RSR rose from $3.84 million to $4.68 million, which lifted RSR backing from 18% to 23%. Stakers' yield fell from 8.1% to 6.0% over the same quarter.

Votes on Index DTFs: RSR is the default governance token for Index DTFs. Holders vote-lock it on a chosen DTF to steer its basket and fees, and getting it back takes a one-week unlock delay. It's the voting model of a decentralized autonomous organization, with a share of fees for lockers on DTFs that switch revenue sharing on.

A burn sink: A portion of every Index DTF's mint and TVL fees buys RSR on the market and sends it to the burn address, and governance sets that portion on-chain.

In plain words, RSR is the risk capital and the voting stock of Reserve's DTFs, and part of the fees those DTFs charge goes to burning it.

Why Is Reserve Rights Searched in October 2026?

RSR climbed into the top three of CoinMarketCap's 24-hour most-searched coins in October 2026, after a new listing on another exchange was announced that month.

The searches landed on a token whose supply rules had changed weeks earlier. Until September 2026, treasury RSR was set to unlock on a fixed time curve modelled on Bitcoin's emissions. On 17 September 2026, holders adopted the Burn Gauge with 80.44% of the votes cast on that ballot.

A rival Milestone Plan, which would have released up to 3 billion treasury RSR once Reserve hit a revenue target, also passed with 52.55% but drew fewer For votes. On 25 September 2026, a ranked-choice vote set the gauge to High burn, with 86.27% of the 1.16 billion RSR cast backing that position.

The Burn Gauge: How RSR's Supply Policy Works

The gauge-setting vote offered five positions, and each one ties the treasury to the RSR burn the protocol already runs on Index DTF fees.

Gauge position
Effect of each 1 RSR the protocol burns
High burn (chosen)
4 treasury RSR burned, nothing unlocks
Low burn
2 treasury RSR burned, nothing unlocks
Sustain
Half a treasury RSR unlocked
Low growth
2 treasury RSR unlocked
High growth
4 treasury RSR unlocked

Burning crypto sends tokens to a dead address, where they can't move again. Under High burn the total RSR burn grows fivefold. If the protocol burns nothing, the treasury burns nothing too.

Method: Reserve's Q2 2026 summary puts the quarter's burn at 14.9 million RSR, about $21,200 at the time. Each of those RSR takes four treasury RSR with it, so a quarter at that pace destroys five times as much. That's 74.5 million RSR, and dividing by the 100 billion supply gives 0.0745%.

Run four quarters at that pace and the gauge removes about 298 million RSR, under 0.3% of supply a year. That's a slow squeeze. The bigger effect is on unlocks, since the Slower Wallet sent out about 150 million RSR a week in late 2025, and a burn setting keeps it shut.

The gauge binds by promise. Confusion Capital administers the treasury's locked Slower Wallet and has pledged to follow holder votes on unlocking. The adoption proposal itself calls that pledge a public commitment with no on-chain enforcement. The setting holds until the next gauge vote, which follows Reserve's Q3 report in October 2026.

RSR Tokenomics

RSR's supply is fixed at 100 billion, and the contract can't raise it. Every admin role on the Ethereum contract points to the zero address and its pause switch is off, so nobody can pause transfers or mint RSR beyond the fixed total.

Burns don't shrink that number on paper. Burned RSR goes to a dead address that no one controls, and the contract's total supply still reads exactly 100 billion afterwards. The dead address held about 136 million RSR in mid-October 2026, 0.136% of supply, and that balance is the real burn count.

CoinMarketCap counts 62.55 billion RSR as circulating, 62.55% of supply. The Slower Wallet holds 17.45%. Its code adds a four-week delay to each withdrawal and lets out no more than 1% of total supply in any four-week window.

About 37,100 wallets held RSR on Ethereum in mid-October 2026. Bridged copies run on Base and Arbitrum, with a third on Energi, and the docs link a January 2022 audit of the token by Solidified.

How to Buy RSR Safely

Phemex does not list RSR, and its RSR spot pair and both RSR perpetuals are delisted. RSR trades in decentralized pools on Ethereum, Base and Arbitrum, so the safe route runs through a self-custody wallet and the right contract.

  1. Set up a self-custody wallet on Ethereum, the network of the canonical RSR contract.

  2. Copy the canonical Ethereum contract 0x320623b8E4fF03373931769A31Fc52A4E78B5d70 and match it against Reserve's docs before you swap.

  3. Skip the old RSR contract that starts 0x8762 and ends 16e8, because it's paused and it isn't the live token.

  4. Ignore look-alikes, since more than 20 other Ethereum contracts use the name Reserve Rights with the RSR ticker.

  5. Send a small test swap first and confirm the token lands in your wallet under the right contract.

Is RSR a Meme Coin?

No, RSR is a working part of Reserve's contracts. It's the first-loss capital behind Yield DTFs such as eUSD, the voting token of Index DTFs and the asset that DTF fees buy and burn.

A meme coin's value rests on attention. RSR's rests on what Reserve DTFs earn, from fees on index baskets to the yield of eUSD, a dollar-pegged stablecoin backed by lending positions. That income came to $149,500 of gross revenue in Q2 2026.

What Are the Risks of Reserve Rights?

  • The protocol lost money in Q2 2026. Reserve's Q2 2026 summary put net revenue at minus $154,100, so the business behind RSR spent more than it earned that quarter. A burn funded by fees can only grow as fast as those fees do.

  • The treasury burn hasn't happened yet. Holders voted for High burn in September 2026, and the burn address on Ethereum had received no treasury RSR under that setting by mid-October. Until it does, the fivefold burn is a rule on paper.

  • Governance spam. A flurry of spam proposals against one DTF led to an October 2026 proposal to add spam protection to RSR's vote-locking systems on BNB Chain and Base. Several DTFs run optimistic governance, where proposals go through unless holders veto them, so a flood of proposals is a real attack route.

  • A large locked supply. The Slower Wallet's 17.45% hasn't moved since January 2026, and its code still allows up to 1% of supply out every four weeks. A future gauge vote for a growth setting would put that supply back in motion.

Is Reserve Rights a Good Investment?

Reserve Rights is a high-risk bet that Reserve's DTFs will earn enough in fees to make the burn matter. The September 2026 votes gave holders the most supply-friendly setting on the ballot, with no unlocks and a fivefold burn.

Q2 2026 showed the catch, with the protocol spending more than it earned and its burn removing a sliver of supply. What would change the picture is fee growth you can see in Reserve's quarterly reports and treasury burns that match the vote.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is RSR coin?

RSR coin is Reserve Rights, the token of the Reserve protocol. Holders stake it to insure Yield DTFs or vote-lock it to govern Index DTFs, and a share of DTF fees buys RSR and burns it. Its supply is fixed at 100 billion tokens on Ethereum.

How does the RSR burn work?

Index DTFs charge mint and TVL fees, and a governed portion of those fees buys RSR and sends it to a dead address. Under the High burn setting holders chose in September 2026, the treasury adds four RSR to each one the protocol burns.

Can anyone mint new RSR?

No. Every admin role on the Ethereum contract points to the zero address, so the 100 billion cap can't rise. Burned tokens sit at a dead address and still count in the contract's total supply figure.

Can I buy RSR on Phemex?

No. Phemex has delisted its RSR spot pair and both RSR perpetuals, so it does not list RSR. You can swap for RSR in decentralized pools on Ethereum and Base after checking the canonical contract.

Is Reserve Rights a good investment?

It's a high-risk token whose value depends on the fees Reserve's DTFs earn, and the protocol lost money in Q2 2026. The September 2026 High burn vote shrinks supply only as fast as those fees grow.

Bottom Line

The September 2026 votes took RSR's supply off the calendar and put it on a fee meter. From here the number that decides RSR's float is the Index DTF fee line in each quarterly report, and the first read on it comes with Reserve's Q3 report in October 2026 and the gauge vote that follows it.
