Key Points

Explore Moonbeam (GLMR), the ex-Polkadot token now on Base powering an AI agent network pre-launch. Get key updates, risks, and how to trade safely. Learn more!

Moonbeam (GLMR) is the former Polkadot parachain token that traded $38.50 million on 27 September 2026, 9.8 times its 21-24 September daily average. Since its 3 July relaunch, GLMR has been an ERC-20 on Base, the token behind an AI agent settlement network that its site showed as pre-launch on 28 September.

GLMR closed 27 September at $0.007899 on CoinMarketCap's daily series, 42.1% above its 16 September close and 9.5% above 26 September. The day's high of $0.010905 printed at 07:56 UTC, 51.2% over the prior close, and the token finished 27.6% below it. That close sits 99.96% under the $19.50 intraday record CoinGecko logs for 11 January 2022.

What Is Moonbeam (GLMR)?

Moonbeam began as an Ethereum-compatible smart contract chain holding one parachain slot on Polkadot, the network our guide to what Polkadot and its DOT token are breaks down. GLMR paid the gas on every transaction there, and collators staked it to secure the chain. In the homepage's own words, both of those jobs "ended with the parachain."

Moonbeam's strategic update of 3 July 2026 announced the full migration of GLMR to Base and called the new Moonbeam Protocol "a decentralized AI agent communication and settlement network" for the on-chain economy. The swap ran one-for-one, so every parachain GLMR became one ERC-20 GLMR on Base. Holders had to bridge before 31 July 2026, the date the post gave as the end of the transition period.

So Moonbeam crypto after July 2026 means GLMR on Base, which the homepage calls the native token of Moonbeam Protocol.

The search spike lines up with one trading day. On 27 September 2026 GLMR turned over $38.50 million on CoinMarketCap's daily series, 9.8 times the $3.94 million it averaged from 21 to 24 September. Against the 30 days to 26 September the multiple was 7.4. By volume the day ranks third among the 366 daily bars from 27 September 2025 to 27 September 2026, behind 7 December 2025 and 17 April 2026. Volume had started climbing two days earlier, with $13.71 million on 25 September and $8.06 million on 26 September.

The price moved with it. GLMR closed at $0.007899, 18.6% above its 24 September close of $0.006660, and CoinGecko lists the token's all-time low as an intraday $0.00537 on 16 September 2026. At its 07:56 UTC high the token touched $0.010905, 1.5% short of the $0.011073 close of 4 July 2026, the best close in CoinMarketCap's series since the relaunch post.

Moonbeam's news page lists two posts when read on 28 September, the 3 July relaunch and a 7 July note on Moonriver's separate MOVR migration, and nothing dated later. The whitepaper page carries the label "Version 1.0 · September 2026" with no day attached. Neither page mentions 27 September, so this page reports the move as price and volume and gives it no cause.

How Does the New Moonbeam Protocol Work?

Moonbeam's homepage calls the project "the network where AI agents settle up," and every mechanism below is the site's description of a system that hasn't opened. Software agents are meant to find a counterparty they've never dealt with, agree terms with no person in the loop and settle the job on Base. Our explainer on what AI agents are in cryptocovers the programs themselves.

A buyer pays the job fee plus a small premium, and both go into escrow. The worker locks a deposit before starting, and the docs require it to be larger than the job. Bonded evaluators grade the work against the evidence, and the escrow pays out only on proof that the work happened. A buyer who receives nothing gets the payment back in full, and a buyer who gets bad work collects from the worker's deposit. The homepage boils the rule down to one line, "The work arrives, or the money comes back."

Jobs would settle in USDC on Base, the currency the docs overview names for every payment. GLMR's planned role is the capital behind the guarantee. A holder would deposit it into one seller's coverage pool and take a share of the premiums that seller's buyers pay. If a third party finds the seller cheated, the seller's own deposit pays first and the pool covers the rest, up to what it holds. The assurance docs are blunt about timing, saying "None of this is open yet."

The whitepaper adds that jobs follow ERC-8183, a public Ethereum standard for paid jobs, and its settlement rules say the protocol mints no new GLMR.

GLMR Tokenomics

The GLMR token on Base lives at 0xb3846fd356c2149ee8d30b0449088dc74e265459, the address Moonbeam printed in its 3 July post and the one CoinGecko lists as GLMR's Base contract. We read the contract through Base's public node on 28 September, and it returned a total supply of 1,237,043,061 GLMR with 18 decimals, matching CoinGecko's total to the token.

The two big price trackers disagree on how much of that supply trades. CoinGecko showed 1,102,199,267 GLMR circulating when read at 16:03 UTC on 28 September, and CoinMarketCap's 27 September bar carries 1,212,043,061. That's a gap of about 110 million tokens, or 8.9% of the supply on Base. At the 27 September close the two counts put GLMR's market value at $8.71 million and $9.57 million.

On 9 July a Moonbeam team member who worked on the bridge wrote on the project's forum that the team minted the whole Base supply once, in advance, and that the contract cannot mint again. The assurance docs add that "GLMR inflation is done." CoinGecko still lists no maximum supply, so the fixed float is the team's claim, and this page hasn't checked it against the contract code.

How to Buy GLMR Safely

Phemex lists no GLMR market. Its 28 September product list shows both of its GLMR perpetuals as delisted and no GLMR spot pair, so this page has no GLMR trade to send you to.

If you buy GLMR somewhere else, the contract you receive should match the Base address in Moonbeam's 3 July announcement character for character. CoinGecko lists Base as GLMR's only platform, so a token called GLMR on any other chain needs a written source from Moonbeam before you trust it.

The migration is the second thing to check. The bridge closed at 23:59 UTC on 31 July 2026, and the 3 July post doesn't say what happens to parachain GLMR that missed it. A staff moderator on Moonbeam's community forum filled that gap in August, telling late holders to email a claim within 60 days from 1 August for individual review. That window runs out at the end of September 2026, so an offer of old-chain GLMR is a bet that someone else's late claim clears.

Pool age and liquidity depth matter on any venue you use, and our guide on how to spot and avoid a rug pull walks through both. DexScreener showed about $7,700 of liquidity across GLMR's nine pools on Base at 17:29 UTC on 28 September, about $6,100 of it in one Uniswap GLMR/USDC pool. That's thin beside the $38.50 million of GLMR that traded on 27 September. A token worth under $10 million that swung 51.2% in one day gives a thin pool plenty of room to move against you.

What Are the Risks of GLMR?

The Protocol Hasn't Launched

Every GLMR use the site describes depends on assurance opening, and none of the Moonbeam pages we read gives a date for that. Until it opens, GLMR has no job on Base beyond being traded.

A 99.96% Drawdown From the 2022 High

GLMR's 27 September close is 99.96% below the $19.50 intraday high of 11 January 2022 and 86.6% below its $0.058729 close of 27 September 2025. The 27.6% slide from high to close on 27 September shows the rally couldn't hold its peak through one UTC day.

Two Supply Counts 110 Million Tokens Apart

Until CoinGecko or CoinMarketCap explains its circulating count, any GLMR market value you see carries a gap of close to $870,000 at the 27 September close.

A Governance Role That Isn't Written Yet

The homepage says a governance role for GLMR "is defined with the community before it opens," and the whitepaper says the token carries network governance without describing a vote. Our guide to how blockchain governance workslays out what token holders usually decide, and for GLMR none of that is on paper.

Thin Trading Before 27 September

From 21 to 24 September GLMR averaged $3.94 million a day on a market value of about $8 million. The last heavier day came on 17 April 2026, when $51.19 million traded and GLMR closed at $0.017177. The 27 September close sat 54.0% below that level.

Is Moonbeam a Good Investment?

The honest answer rests on a product that hasn't launched. GLMR only has a case if assurance opens and buyers pay premiums at scale, because backers earn nothing but a share of those fees. No seller record or premium rate exists yet to test that model against.

The dated record runs the other way. GLMR's best close since the relaunch post was $0.011073 on 4 July 2026, and the 27 September close sat 28.7% below that level even after the spike.

It suits a trader who has read the whitepaper, treats GLMR as a bet on one launch and sizes the position to lose. It doesn't suit anyone who wants income, since the docs say GLMR earns nothing until you deposit it into a coverage pool and no pool has opened.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Moonbeam crypto dead?

Going by Moonbeam's own channels, the project is active and the product is unfinished. A staff moderator wrote on the forum on 3 September that the team was processing late migration claims manually and in batches, with no set timeline for replies. The docs overview lists the TypeScript SDK as "Not on npm yet" and says joining the network "starts with partners and is not open yet."

What is Moonbeam crypto?

Moonbeam crypto is GLMR, a token that spent its first life on a Polkadot parachain and moved to Base in July 2026. The docs illustrate the new model with a buyer paying 100 for a job plus a fee of 1, while the worker locks a deposit of 120.

Where can I buy GLMR?

Phemex lists no GLMR market, and both GLMR perpetuals it opened in 2022 show as delisted in its product list read on 28 September. Its records date the GLMR/USD perpetual to 29 April 2022 and the GLMR/USDT one to 29 December 2022. Moonbeam's 3 July post told holders on centralized exchanges that their exchange would handle the migration for them.

What is the GLMR price?

GLMR closed 27 September 2026 at $0.007899 on CoinMarketCap's daily series, the last settled close this page uses. The same bar opened at $0.007214 and dipped to $0.007099 at 01:40 UTC before the 07:56 UTC high of $0.010905.

What happened to Moonbeam on Polkadot?

Moonbeam's 3 July post said the parachain would keep operating through a transition period that ran until 31 July 2026. It warned that funds left in the chain's DeFi protocols "may become inaccessible" once the chain winds down. The team's forum post the same day said GLMR frozen in staking or crowdloan locks would still be honoured on Base against a snapshot of the old chain.

Final Thoughts

Whatever drove the 27 September volume, a buyer that day got a token whose only planned role is insurance capital for a market of AI agents that hasn't opened. A buyer of GLMR holds a claim on future premiums whose rate and start date appear nowhere on Moonbeam's own pages. The date that would change this reading is the day assurance opens, and Moonbeam hasn't named one.
