What Is Lumia (LUMIA)? The RWA Layer 2 That Replaced Orion Protocol

Key Points

Discover everything about Lumia (LUMIA), the RWA Layer 2 token that replaced Orion, recent price moves, tokenomics, and how to buy safely. Explore more now!

Lumia (LUMIA) is the token that pays for gas on Lumia Chain, a Layer 2 network built for real-world assets, and it traded 42.61 times its previous day's volume in a single day in early October 2026. The project started life as Orion Protocol, a crypto liquidity aggregator, and LUMIA replaced its ORN token in 2024.

LUMIA closed that day at $0.1024 on CoinMarketCap, up 25.26% from the previous close. It had traded as high as $0.1373 and finished 25.43% below that high. The $76.21 million that changed hands was its largest daily volume of 2026. Its 23 Ethereum swap pools held about $22,500 of liquidity between them, far too little to carry that volume, so the buying ran on exchange order books.

What Is Lumia Crypto?

Lumia crypto means LUMIA, the token of a blockchain built to carry tokenized real-world assets such as property and credit from issuance through to redemption. Lumia's product page calls the chain "a high-performance, zkEVM-based Layer 2 purpose-built for real-world assets", and it's built with Polygon's Chain Development Kit (CDK) and the Erigon client.

The same team used to run Orion Protocol, a liquidity aggregator. Lumia's audit notes still carry the Orion name, because Orion commissioned the review of the contracts that turned ORN into LUMIA.

Searches for Lumia also return the old Nokia and Microsoft phones and a streaming tool at lumiastream.com. Neither one is this token, and Lumia's docs add that its own Lumia Stream liquidity product has nothing to do with that site.

Lumia is trending because its early-October rally came with the biggest day-over-day jump in volume in LUMIA's CoinMarketCap record. The $76.21 million traded was 42.61 times the $1.79 million of the day before and 34.6 times the average of the previous 30 days.

The jump was LUMIA's own. Tokens tied to real-world assets moved a fraction as much on Phemex that day, with PLUME spot up 3.86% and ONDO futures up 2.82%. PENDLE futures gained 3.83% and Polygon's POL added 1.08%, while Bitcoin futures rose 0.44%.

The close was also LUMIA's first above its 200-day average of $0.09509 since 12 July 2026.

No post on Lumia's blog explains the move, and its newest entry is a market recap from June 2026.

What Happened After Lumia's Biggest Up-Days?

Most of LUMIA's biggest up-days have been given back within a month. The early-October gain ranks sixth among the token's one-day gains on CoinMarketCap since October 2024, and seven of the other nine days in that top ten closed lower 30 days later. The median change across those nine was -38.6%.

Seven days out the damage was smaller, with seven of the nine lower and a median change of -6.1%.

The early-October day stands apart on volume. Its 42.61-times jump is the largest in the whole record. The closest of the top ten on volume was an 18.1-times day in June 2026, and it's one of the two that finished higher 30 days on.

Method: the ten largest one-day gains in CoinMarketCap's 723 daily LUMIA closes from 18 October 2024, each compared with the close seven and 30 days later. Three of the nine came in June 2026 and two in late April and early May 2026, so some of their windows overlap.

That record is a precedent and carries no forecast. The table counts closes and exchange volume only. Open interest tracks something else, the positions left open in derivatives markets, as open interest versus volume explains.

How Does Lumia Chain Work?

Lumia Chain is one of the Ethereum Layer 2 solutions that run transactions away from Ethereum and prove the result back to it. A single sequencer orders transactions and groups them into batches, and Lumia's docs say ordering depends on that one component staying up.

Provers then build a zero-knowledge proof for each batch, and a contract on Ethereum checks it, the method ZK rollupsuse too.

The difference is where the data lives. A rollup posts its transaction data to Ethereum, where anyone can rebuild the chain's state. Lumia keeps it on Avail, a separate data-availability network, and that makes it a validium. Keeping data off Ethereum cuts Lumia's costs. Lumia's docs spell out the price, since the chain's state could become unrecoverable if Avail failed to serve the data, even with every proof correct.

Lumia's docs explain how Lumia settles and bridges to Ethereum through AggLayer, a shared hub that several Polygon CDK chains join. Members move tokens through one unified bridge contract on Ethereum, and the docs add that Polygon governs that hub and its upgrade path.

When Polygon announced Lumia on Agglayer in February 2025, it called it "a new chain launched with Polygon CDK custom-built to tokenize real-world assets on Agglayer". Compliance lives in each asset's own contracts, so an issuer can require KYC from its holders while the base chain stays open to anyone.

LUMIA Tokenomics

LUMIA's Ethereum contract holds 238.9 million tokens, 2.39 times the 100 million ORN that Orion Protocol issued. Citing Halborn's audit of the conversion contract, Lumia's docs say ORN converts to LUMIA one-to-one. A converted ORN holder's share of the total therefore fell to about 42% of what it had been.

The verified contract hard-codes a cap of 238,888,888 and the supply already fills it, so the mint function can add tokens only after some are burned. The code has no pause function, so no one can freeze transfers, but its owner holds a burn power covered in the risks below.

Three addresses held 93.94% of the Ethereum supply in early October 2026. Polygon's shared bridge held 71.06%, the route LUMIA takes onto Lumia Chain to pay for gas there. The contract's multisig owner held 18.47% and a plain wallet held 4.41%.

The circulating figure depends on the feed, and so does the market value. At the early-October close of $0.1024, the three counts give three different answers.

Which Lumia Token Contract Address Is the Real One?

The Lumia token contract address on Ethereum is 0xd9343a049d5dbd89cd19dc6bca8c48fb3a0a42a7. Its verified code names it Lumia Token, and it carries the full supply with most of it in Polygon's bridge. Lumia's docs page of contract addresses doesn't list the token, so check those facts on an explorer before you swap.

Copies of the name are common. GeckoTerminal's pool search in early October 2026 listed at least 28 other tokens named LUMIA across seven chains, and ten of them had pools created in October 2026. Two sit on Ethereum itself, and GeckoTerminal showed their pools holding more liquidity than all of the real token's pools combined.

How to Buy LUMIA Safely

Phemex delisted its LUMIA spot pair, which it had listed in December 2024, so buying LUMIA means an on-chain swap from a self-custody wallet. Run these checks before you approve anything.

  1. Set up a self-custody wallet on Ethereum mainnet and fund it with ETH for gas, since every LUMIA swap you make there is an Ethereum transaction.

  2. Paste the contract 0xd9343a049d5dbd89cd19dc6bca8c48fb3a0a42a7 into the swap and match every character, because two other Ethereum tokens also call themselves LUMIA.

  3. Don't buy ORN expecting to get LUMIA, since Orion's old contract still exists as a separate token with its 100 million supply.

  4. Check the chain before you swap, because a separate LUMIA contract on BNB Chain holds about 1.52 million tokens. In early October 2026 nearly all of its pool liquidity was in one pool charging a 99.95% swap fee.

  5. Read the fee tier and depth of the pool you pick. The largest Ethereum LUMIA pools charge fee tiers of 8% to 10% and hold a few thousand dollars each, so size the swap to the pool.

Futures on other assets use leverage, and a leveraged position is closed automatically if losses reach its margin.

What Are the Risks of Lumia?

The Contract Owner Can Burn Any Holder's LUMIA

LUMIA's Ethereum contract has verified source code on Sourcify, and its burn function lets the owner destroy tokens at any address without that holder's approval. The owner is a multisig wallet that needs three of its four signers to act. Hacken's review of the token contract never went past a preliminary report, dated October 2024, according to Lumia's own audits page.

Nothing Has Audited the Chain Itself

Every engagement on Lumia's audits page reviews smart contracts. The page says the protocol layer falls outside all of them, from the sequencer and provers to the data layer and the bridge. That layer also carries Lumia's two outside dependencies, Avail for data and Polygon's hub for settlement.

Gas Is LUMIA's Only Live Job

Lumia's docs say no staking or governance product is live on the chain, which leaves paying gas as the token's one working use. Demand for LUMIA rises and falls with activity on Lumia Chain until that changes.

Is Lumia Crypto a Good Investment?

Lumia crypto is a high-risk bet that issuers will bring enough real-world assets onto its chain to make LUMIA's gas fees matter. That thesis rests on asset tokenization on the blockchain growing onto one specialist network, and Lumia has to win those issuers from every other chain chasing them.

The token's record is weak so far. Its early-October close sat 95.38% below its $2.214 record close of December 2024 on CoinMarketCap. Its 2026 closes ran from $0.0577 in February to $0.1882 in April, and the spike left it in the lower half of that range.

Two things would change that picture, a live staking product that gives holders a use beyond gas and a final audit of the token contract.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Lumia coin?

Lumia coin is LUMIA, the gas token of Lumia Chain, a Layer 2 network for tokenized real-world assets that settles through Polygon's AggLayer on Ethereum. It took over from Orion Protocol's ORN in 2024, and its Ethereum contract caps supply at 238,888,888.

Is Lumia coin a good investment?

It's a high-risk holding. LUMIA's early-October 2026 close was about 95% below its December 2024 record on CoinMarketCap. Gas is its only live use, and seven of its nine other biggest up-days closed lower 30 days later.

How does the ORN to LUMIA token swap work?

Lumia's docs, citing Halborn's audit, say ORN converts to LUMIA one-to-one through a conversion contract. The docs tell holders to use only a swap interface verified through an official Lumia channel and to ask Lumia's support before connecting a wallet to anything unfamiliar.

Why did Lumia go up?

LUMIA rose 25.26% on CoinMarketCap over one early-October 2026 day as its volume jumped 42.61 times. Tokens tied to real-world assets and Polygon barely moved that day, and Lumia's blog gives no reason for the rally.

Can you buy LUMIA on Phemex?

No. Phemex delisted its LUMIA spot pair and lists no LUMIA futures contract. To hold LUMIA, swap on-chain from a self-custody wallet using the Ethereum contract that carries the full supply.

Bottom Line

The early-October bar priced LUMIA as a trading chip, moved by order books far larger than anything on-chain. The case for holding it is a different bet, that issuers bring enough real-world assets onto Lumia Chain to make its gas token necessary. Nothing in the spike tested that bet.
