Drift Protocol, the largest perpetuals DEX on the Solana ecosystem, was hacked for $286 million, marking the largest DeFi security incident of 2026. The attack, attributed to North Korean hacker groups, involved exploiting stolen administrator keys to drain the liquidity pool. The stolen funds were converted into USDC and transferred to Ethereum. This incident caused the DRIFT token to plunge 25%, while Solana (SOL) dropped to a five-week low of $78.30. In the broader crypto market, Bitcoin fell 2.5% to approximately $66,835, and Ethereum dropped 4.28% to $2,046. The global crypto market cap declined by 4% to $2.37 trillion. The Crypto Fear & Greed Index hit extreme fear levels, remaining below 25 for 46 consecutive days. Despite the fear, Japanese company Metaplanet purchased 5,075 BTC, signaling some investors are buying the dip.
