OpenAI has launched The Deployment Company (DeployCo), a joint venture with over $4 billion in backing from 19 investors, including TPG, Brookfield, and Bain Capital. Valued at $10 billion, DeployCo aims to embed OpenAI engineers directly into enterprises to implement AI systems across sectors such as healthcare and manufacturing. OpenAI itself is investing up to $1.5 billion in the venture.
DeployCo offers a unique "engineers-as-a-service" model, providing a streamlined path for AI integration into the portfolio companies of its private equity backers. Investors are guaranteed a 17.5% annual return over five years, with OpenAI maintaining control through super-voting shares. This move positions OpenAI as a significant player in AI implementation services, challenging traditional consulting firms like Accenture and Deloitte.
