Zcash development team Zakura plans to introduce post-quantum signature opcodes in January, enabling the network to verify hash-based signatures resistant to quantum attacks. Engineer Roman Akhtariev confirmed the upgrade will initially cover transparent transactions, which account for approximately 70% of issued ZEC, while shielded transactions will require separate protection measures.
The initiative follows Ethereum researcher Justin Drake's call for the crypto industry to prepare a "bunker mode" against future quantum threats. The announcement comes as ZEC has declined roughly 11% over the past week.
