The Zcash Community Grants (ZCG) committee has withdrawn a proposal to reallocate approximately 98,000 ZEC toward future mining rewards after facing significant community backlash. Originally submitted on October 29, the plan would have redirected funds that were initially intended for ecosystem grants into the miner reward pool. ZCG confirmed it will no longer advance the proposal and stated that future fund allocations should be determined through Zcash's standard governance processes.
The withdrawal comes amid growing scrutiny of ZCG's funding model. The committee receives an 8% share of newly minted ZEC—approximately 144 ZEC daily—and its treasury is reportedly sufficient to sustain operations for years. Community concerns intensified following spending controversies tied to the previously funded ZECsy project, raising questions about continued automatic inflows. Separate reform proposals from Sean Bowe, Zooko Wilcox, and Daira-Emma Hopwood have yet to gain approval, leaving the existing distribution mechanism in place until a network upgrade alters the rules.
