On-chain investigator ZachXBT has traced the $28 million Bittensor hack to purchases of anime-themed NFTs. The investigation revealed that the stolen TAO tokens were initially converted to Monero and then moved through Railgun, a privacy-focused protocol, before being distributed across three wallets. These wallets were subsequently used to trade NFTs.
One of the wallets was linked to a Bittensor user known as Rusty, identified as Ayden B. While Ayden B confirmed ownership of the wallets, he denied any involvement in the hack. The investigation highlights the complex methods used to obscure the origins of stolen cryptocurrency.
