XRP Ledger developers are testing a new transaction type called SponsoredAccountCreate that would allow an existing account to create a new wallet and cover its reserve requirement, enabling zero-XRP balances for new users. Under the design, sponsors can also pay transaction fees but retain no control over the user's private keys.
Currently, every XRPL account must lock at least 1 XRP as a reserve. The proposed code was submitted on October 15 and remains under review, dependent on a sponsorship amendment not yet activated on mainnet. As of October 19, the amendment had secured 11 validator votes out of the 29 required to pass. Ripple previously partnered with Stripe-owned Privy to introduce embedded wallets for XRP Ledger applications supporting RLUSD and AI agent payments.
