WhiteBIT has refuted allegations by Russia's Prosecutor General that it facilitated illegal fund transfers to support Ukraine's armed forces. The Ukrainian crypto exchange stated it ceased operations in Russia following the 2022 invasion of Ukraine, blocking Russian and Belarusian users and discontinuing trading pairs with the Russian ruble. This decision reportedly cost WhiteBIT 30% of its user base. Russia recently labeled WhiteBIT and its parent company, W Group, as "undesirable organizations," claiming the exchange transferred $11 million to Ukraine. WhiteBIT clarified that these funds were its own donations to Ukraine's defense and humanitarian efforts, not sourced from Russia. The exchange also confirmed its collaboration with UNITED24, Ukraine's state-backed crypto donation platform, facilitating over $160 million in crypto donations. Despite initial setbacks from exiting the Russian market, WhiteBIT reports significant growth, with its business expanding more than eightfold. The use of cryptocurrencies in Ukraine has surged since the conflict began, with donations to government-provided addresses reaching nearly $70 million by 2023.
