William Panzera, a 53-year-old from North Haledon, New Jersey, has been sentenced to 12 years in federal prison for his involvement in a fentanyl distribution and money laundering conspiracy. Panzera was convicted of using Bitcoin to pay Chinese suppliers for fentanyl analogues and other controlled substances, which were distributed across New Jersey. The operation imported over a metric ton of fentanyl-related substances into the U.S. The case is part of a larger crackdown on fentanyl trafficking, highlighted by Operation RapTor, a global initiative targeting dark web drug markets. This operation, coordinated by the U.S. Department of Justice and international partners, resulted in 270 arrests and the seizure of over $200 million in assets. Authorities also confiscated more than two metric tons of drugs, including 144 kilograms of fentanyl-laced substances.
