Humanoid robot startup Walden Robotics, a spin-off from Toyota's robotics research lab, has successfully raised approximately $300 million in a seed funding round, achieving a valuation of $1.1 billion. The funding was co-led by Deviation Capital and Toyota Motor Corporation, with additional investments from Nvidia, Boeing, AE Ventures, Samsung Venture Investment, and CoreWeave Ventures.
Based in Cambridge, Massachusetts, Walden Robotics focuses on developing general-purpose robots for manufacturing and logistics. The company has already initiated sales of its humanoid robots, which are designed to perform strenuous tasks such as loading and unloading auto parts and cleaning equipment. A pilot project is currently underway at a Toyota plant in North America. Co-founder Russ Tedrake, who has a background with the Toyota Research Institute and MIT, leads the company's efforts in advancing robotics technology.
