Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin pushed back against a prediction that AI could drive Bitcoin down more than 50% within two years by weakening the network security investors rely on.
Liron Shapira, a Silicon Valley investor and host of the Doom Debates podcast, said he is 50% certain Bitcoin will fall by more than half over that period. Buterin said he takes the opposite view, arguing AI is unlikely to threaten Bitcoin’s underlying security. He distinguished between network-level attacks, which could be addressed through client and infrastructure upgrades, and a complete break of Bitcoin’s hash algorithm or proof-of-work, which he described as extremely unlikely.
Buterin added that about 90% of his net worth is in crypto assets, calling that exposure a bet in the opposite direction.
