Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin has stated that the blockchain can handle temporary losses of finality without significant disruption. Buterin explained that even if finality is delayed for several hours due to client errors, the network can continue to operate normally as long as incorrect blocks are not finalized. Computer science Ph.D. Fabrizio Romano Genovese supported this view, noting that Ethereum behaves similarly to Bitcoin during such periods. Meanwhile, a Polygon spokesperson acknowledged that while the lack of finality might impact infrastructure like cross-chain bridges and Layer2 solutions, Polygon will maintain functionality, though with potential delays in transactions until finality is restored.
