Ethereum founder Vitalik Buterin, in a discussion with cryptographer Ian Miers, stated that content moderation does not require Fully Homomorphic Encryption (FHE) or Multi-Party Computation (MPC). Buterin emphasized that since content is in plaintext, Zero-Knowledge Proofs (ZKP) can be used to enable anonymous posting while still allowing user bans. He also suggested that ZK can ensure transparency in AI-driven content recommendation fairness. For secure monitoring of encrypted messages, Buterin proposed that the only ethical method is a user-controlled local AI scanning system, eliminating the need for complex encryption solutions.
