Brian Garry Sewell, a 54-year-old from Washington County, Utah, has been sentenced to three years in federal prison for his role in a cryptocurrency fraud scheme. Sewell pleaded guilty to operating an illegal business that exchanged cash for cryptocurrency, defrauding investors of approximately $2.9 million. Following his prison term, he will face three years of supervised release and must pay over $3.8 million in restitution. The U.S. Department of Justice revealed that Sewell deceived at least 17 investors between December 2017 and April 2024 by falsifying his credentials and promising high returns. The investigation, led by the FBI's Salt Lake City Field Office, uncovered that Sewell's illegal operations moved over $5.4 million through Rockwell Capital Management, which he controlled. The case took nearly five years to conclude, highlighting the significant financial impact on victims.
