The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has announced a groundbreaking initiative to transition 50% of its government services to autonomous AI systems by 2028. This move, spearheaded by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and endorsed by UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, positions the UAE as the first nation to integrate AI at such a scale in public governance. The initiative aims to transform AI from a supportive tool to an autonomous executive partner, enhancing service delivery and decision-making efficiency. The transition will occur over a two-year period, with a focus on training federal employees in generative AI technologies. The initiative will be implemented in phases across ministries, guided by continuous performance assessments. This development builds on two decades of digital infrastructure advancements in the UAE, including the establishment of a Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence in 2017 and the launch of the UAE Artificial Intelligence Strategy 2031.
