Token2049, a prominent cryptocurrency conference held in Singapore, has removed all references to the ruble-pegged stablecoin A7A5 from its website. A7A5, which was listed as a "Platinum Sponsor" and had a booth at the event, was also represented by its Director of Regulatory and Overseas Affairs, Oleg Ogienko, who spoke at the conference. However, following sanctions imposed by the United States and the United Kingdom in August against companies allegedly behind A7A5, the conference has scrubbed mentions of the stablecoin and Ogienko from its site.
The sanctions targeted A7A5, launched in January by a Russian defense lender and a payments company, as part of a network accused of helping Russia circumvent Western sanctions. The removal of A7A5 from Token2049's website reflects the growing scrutiny and regulatory challenges faced by projects linked to sanctioned entities.
