Thai cyber police, in collaboration with the FBI, have successfully recovered $432,000 in USDT and BTC from Eastern European hackers in "Operation 293." The operation led to the arrest of a suspect in Phuket, who allegedly used malware to steal authentication keys and mnemonic phrases, converting the stolen funds into USDT and BTC. The investigation, aided by Tether, froze the USDT and traced transactions through the Bangkok-based exchange Bitkub, allowing the recovery and return of the funds to two victims.
The suspect is connected to multiple cryptocurrency scams in Thailand, with six victims identified and total losses amounting to approximately 3.2 million Thai baht. The operation highlights the ongoing international efforts to combat cybercrime in the cryptocurrency sector.
