Taiwanese prosecutors have indicted 10 individuals, including Liu Yusen, former head of the now-defunct cryptocurrency exchange BITGIN, in a money laundering case involving over NT$150 million. Among those charged are CEO Zhang Hansen and COO Zhang Yuting, who are also implicated in a separate NT$274.6 billion case linked to gold tycoon Tu Chengwen. The Zhang siblings could face up to 12 years in prison.
The indictment alleges that BITGIN collaborated with a fraud ring in 2023, facilitating money laundering and fraud through the use of USDT and fake cryptocurrency dealers. The scheme reportedly defrauded 46 victims, with funds being laundered via cryptocurrency wallets and overseas exchanges to obscure their origins.
