Stripe and Paradigm have launched Tempo, a new Layer 1 blockchain designed for stablecoin payments, compatible with Ethereum's EVM. Matt Huang, co-founder of Paradigm and Stripe board member, will serve as Tempo's first CEO. The blockchain aims to enable high-frequency, low-latency stablecoin transactions, eliminating the need for traditional intermediaries like Visa and Mastercard. The development of Tempo is bolstered by Stripe's recent acquisitions of Bridge and Privy, which enhance its wallet and payment system capabilities. The GENIUS Act, passed in July 2025, provides a clearer regulatory framework for stablecoins, encouraging Stripe and Paradigm to focus on this sector. Tempo's launch is part of Paradigm's long-term investment strategy, leveraging its expertise to support the project under Matt Huang's leadership.
