On-chain investigator Shima has successfully traced the laundering path of $2.4 million stolen in the Shibarium bridge hack. The attacker used Tornado Cash to obscure the trail but made a mistake that allowed Shima to track the funds to 48 deposits on KuCoin. The stolen assets, initially moved as 260 ETH through Tornado Cash, were funneled into KuCoin via intermediary wallets.
Shima shared his findings with Shibarium and KuCoin, but the exchange requested a law-enforcement case number before proceeding. To facilitate independent action by victims and authorities, Shima published his analysis publicly.
