Starknet has commenced an upgrade to integrate Bitcoin staking, temporarily suspending the staking protocol for several hours. This significant update will enable Bitcoin holders to participate in Starknet's consensus mechanism. The upgrade sets BTC staking weight at 0.25, meaning Bitcoin will account for 25% of the consensus weight, with STRK covering the remaining 75%. Initially, the upgrade supports WBTC, LBTC, tBTC, and SolvBTC, with plans to add more BTC derivatives through governance. Additionally, the staking release period is reduced from 21 days to 7 days for both BTC and STRK stakers. The BTC staking function is scheduled to launch on the mainnet on September 30.
