South Korean police in Chungcheongnam-do have dismantled a scheme involving counterfeit currency used in an attempted offline cryptocurrency exchange. The group produced 9,188 fake 50,000 won notes, totaling approximately 459 million won. Last year, they attempted to exchange these counterfeit bills for cryptocurrency near Cheonan Asan Station. The poor quality of the notes led to their detection and subsequent police involvement. Three individuals have been apprehended, with one having fled overseas before being captured and extradited. Two suspects have been charged, while the third remains under investigation. The suspects cited unemployment and financial difficulties as their motive.
