The cryptocurrency fraud case involving Lee Hee-jin, dubbed the "Cheongdamdong Stock God," has been transferred to the Financial Crimes Investigation Division of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency. Initially handled by the Seoul Gangnam Police Station, the case involves allegations of Lee failing to pay 1.88 billion won in settlement payments to her business partner, the representative of the Pica Coin issuing company. The lawsuit has since expanded, with claimed damages now totaling 28 billion won (approximately 19.27 million U.S. dollars).
Lee and her partner had agreed in 2020 to develop a token for fractional investment in artworks, but Lee allegedly breached the profit-sharing agreement. Additionally, she is under investigation for defrauding 90 billion won (approximately 61.95 million U.S. dollars) through false advertising and market manipulation related to Pica Coin and other tokens. Lee was arrested in October 2023 and released on bail in March 2024.
