Solana has announced its quantum computing roadmap, emphasizing that while the quantum threat is still years away, the ecosystem is proactively preparing. Independent verification teams Anza and Firedancer, which hold the majority of network staking, have selected the Falcon digital signature scheme for its compact signatures and suitability for high-throughput blockchains. Initial implementation code has been released on GitHub. The Solana Winternitz Vault, developed by Blueshift, has been operational for over two years, offering a quantum-resistant solution. Recognized by Google Quantum AI, this Vault exemplifies forward-looking post-quantum work. Solana's roadmap includes ongoing research, evaluation of Falcon and alternatives, and plans to adopt post-quantum schemes for new wallets and migrate existing ones when quantum computing becomes a credible threat. The migration is expected to be swift and without significant impact on network performance.
