Six Bitcoin wallets that were last active between 2011 and 2014 transferred a combined 553.59 BTC, worth about $40 million, between August 16 and August 26. Galaxy Research tracking data showed that one of the wallets had been inactive for more than 15 years before the transfer.
The activity comes as dormant Bitcoin movement remained muted overall. Alex Thorn, head of research at Galaxy Digital, said the amount of dormant Bitcoin moved on-chain in the second quarter fell to its lowest level since the third quarter of 2022. Galaxy defines dormant coins as Bitcoin that has not moved for at least one year.
