Shapeshift, a multi-chain decentralized exchange aggregator, has announced support for Zcash shielded transactions, reinforcing its commitment to user privacy. This development, backed by a Zcash community grant, allows Shapeshift's DEX aggregator and self-custody wallet to facilitate private transactions using Zcash. The move signifies a notable shift for Shapeshift, which previously removed privacy coins in 2020 due to regulatory challenges when it operated as a centralized exchange. The integration of shielded ZEC into the Shapeshift DAO offers a decentralized method for acquiring and using ZEC, aligning with Shapeshift's transition to a decentralized model that eliminates the need for KYC. The platform utilizes node networks from blockchain infrastructure provider Liquify for transaction execution and has updated its app for improved mobile use. Despite these advancements, privacy-focused applications like Shapeshift may face regulatory scrutiny, as EU anti-money laundering regulations could restrict privacy coins by 2027.
