The Russian government is set to implement a permanent ban on cryptocurrency mining in the southern regions of Buryatia and Zabaykalsky Krai, effective from 2026. Previously, these areas only enforced temporary restrictions during winter due to high electricity demand. This move follows a similar ban in the southern part of Irkutsk, known as the "mining capital." Currently, at least 10 regions in Russia have imposed long-term or phased mining bans, with some restrictions extending until 2031.
