Buryatia has endorsed a year-round ban on cryptocurrency mining to address a significant electricity shortage. The Ministry of Transport, Energy, and Road Construction announced that this measure aims to stabilize the power grid, which is currently facing a 3,000 MW deficit. Previously, mining restrictions were only in place seasonally, from November 15 to March 15.
A draft protocol dated December 10, 2025, outlines plans to extend the mining ban to southern Buryatia and Zabaykalsky by 2026. This decision comes as the region, along with Irkutsk and Zabaykalsky, struggles with maintaining a stable electricity supply.
