Riot Platforms has agreed to pay $20 million in cash to SBI Crypto to settle a three-year legal dispute over the termination of a 2021 hosting agreement at the Rockdale Whinstone mining facility in Texas. The settlement was reached on February 16, just a week before the case was set to go to trial in the Western District of Texas federal court. SBI had initially sought over $175 million for "lost profits from Bitcoin appreciation" and more than $50 million in equipment costs, with attempts to increase the claim to over $350 million through expert reports. However, on February 2, the court ruled that SBI could not use appreciated Bitcoin prices in their loss model for compensation calculations.
