The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) has seized cryptocurrency assets valued at 56 million Canadian dollars ($40 million) from the exchange TradeOgre, marking the largest cryptocurrency confiscation in Canadian history. The operation followed a Europol tip-off in June 2024, uncovering that TradeOgre operated without proper financial registration and lacked client verification processes. The RCMP suspects that a significant portion of the funds on TradeOgre originated from illicit activities. The exchange's website now displays a notice of the seizure, and its last social media activity was recorded on May 28, 2025. While users have criticized the RCMP's actions, arguing that using the exchange without verification is not illegal in Canada, legal experts indicate that fund recovery will be a complex process, requiring users to provide substantial documentation to prove the legality of their assets.
