Y Combinator's Crypto Startup Guide Puts RWA Tokenization, Stablecoins, and AI Trading Agents at Center of Institutional Shift
Y Combinator released its October 2026 crypto startup guide, identifying a fundamental shift in the industry: growth is now driven by institutional adoption rather than retail speculation. Use cases are moving from trading to real financial needs such as oil hedging and cross-border corporate treasury operations.
The accelerator outlined six priority areas for founders over the next six months: AI-powered fundraising, USD and multi-currency stablecoins, neobanks, real-world asset (RWA) tokenization, trading platforms, and crypto API infrastructure designed for AI agents. YC expects tokenization to expand beyond stablecoins and equities into property titles, debt instruments, and commodities, while previously illiquid small-cap assets gain on-chain market access.
YC emphasized that traditional finance's structural challenges create openings for next-generation fintech startups, with AI agents poised to become significant participants in on-chain trading, lending, and derivatives markets.
