The New York Police Department's Domain Awareness System (DAS) is under scrutiny as a federal civil rights lawsuit has been filed against it. The lawsuit, initiated by the Surveillance Technology Oversight Project (STOP), claims that the DAS infringes on the Fourth and First Amendments by facilitating unconstitutional mass surveillance. Developed in collaboration with Microsoft, the DAS consolidates numerous surveillance feeds, license plate readers, and data streams into a real-time dashboard accessible to NYPD officers on mobile devices.
