The National Tax Service of South Korea inadvertently exposed a cryptocurrency wallet's recovery phrase during a press release, leading to the theft of $4.8 million in digital assets. The incident occurred when photographs from a raid on tax evaders were published without masking the Ledger hardware wallet's seed phrase.
Following the leak, all 4 million PRTG tokens, valued at approximately 6.4 billion Korean won, were swiftly transferred to an unknown wallet. The thief deposited a small amount of Ethereum to cover transaction fees before executing the transfer in three separate transactions, according to blockchain data expert Jaewoo Cho.
