Pablo Sabbatella, founder of Web3 auditing firm Opsek and a member of the Security Alliance (SEAL), has revealed that North Korean agents have infiltrated 15% to 20% of cryptocurrency companies. Speaking at the Devconnect conference, Sabbatella highlighted the extensive reach of North Korean operatives, who also account for 30% to 40% of job applications in the sector. Due to international sanctions, North Korean agents often employ remote workers from countries like Ukraine and the Philippines to act as fronts, taking 80% of the earnings while the workers receive 20%. These agents also recruit Americans to pose as non-English speaking Chinese interviewees, using malware to access US IP addresses and bypass restrictions. Sabbatella noted that the crypto industry's poor security makes it vulnerable to such infiltration, with social engineering and malware posing significant threats.
