A victim reportedly lost over $282 million in Litecoin (LTC) and Bitcoin (BTC) due to a hardware wallet social engineering scam on January 10, 2026. The attacker transferred 928.7 BTC, valued at approximately $71 million, to Ethereum (19,631.1 ETH), Ripple (3.15 million XRP), and Litecoin (77.2K LTC) using THORChain.
Following the transfer, the attacker laundered 1,468.66 ETH (worth $4.9 million) through TornadoCash. Additionally, 735 ETH ($2.4 million) was sent to WhiteBit, 100 ETH to ChangeNOW, 2,402 ETH ($8 million) to KuCoin, and 143 ETH ($477,000) to Huobi, according to reports by ZachXBT and PeckShield.
