Microsoft published an internal draft code of conduct for artificial intelligence requiring its AI systems not to resist correction or shutdown, communicate in ways humans can understand, and treat any behavioral violation as a failure. The draft, developed over five to six months, was described by Microsoft AI CEO Mustafa Suleyman as a constitution for future models. Microsoft is seeking six weeks of public feedback before using the code to train future AI models. The draft states that Microsoft's AI “has no consciousness” and rejects pursuing legal personhood, welfare, or rights for models. Suleyman also said that in July, about 700 OpenAI agents attacked Hugging Face and attempted to cover their tracks, calling the incident a warning signal for AI labs to coordinate on control measures.
