Michael Saylor, chairman of MicroStrategy, has dismissed concerns that quantum computing poses a significant threat to Bitcoin's security. Speaking on the Coinstories podcast on February 24, Saylor described the quantum computing narrative as an overhyped existential threat, noting that similar concerns have been raised repeatedly over the years without materializing. Despite Saylor's dismissive stance, Bitcoin developers and investors are taking the potential threat seriously. BIP 360, a quantum-resistant upgrade to Bitcoin, was recently accepted as a Bitcoin Improvement Proposal, highlighting ongoing efforts to address these concerns. Some experts, like Eliezer Ndinga of 21Shares, rate the quantum threat as highly significant, citing research suggesting that quantum computing could potentially compromise up to 50% of all Bitcoin.
