Bitcoin has taken a significant step towards quantum resistance with the acceptance of BIP 360 into the Bitcoin Improvement Proposals repository. Announced by Bitcoin core developer Murch on February 11, the proposal introduces Pay to Merkle Root (P2MR) as a potential enhancement to Bitcoin's security against quantum computing threats. Co-authored by Hunter Beast, Ethan Heilman, and Isabel Foxen Duke, BIP 360 is currently under review and discussion, with no protocol changes activated yet.
