Liquid Capital founder Jack Yi said AI investing should focus on identifying a small number of star companies capable of generating outsized returns rather than spreading bets evenly. In a post on X, he pointed to Duan Yongping’s 2002 purchase of NetEase shares below $1 with $2 million, a position he said was held for eight years and returned more than 100x, generating over $260 million. Yi said major technological shifts often create multiple opportunities for outsized gains. He compared the current AI sector to the early stage of the crypto industry a decade ago, when holding BTC or backing quality projects produced many 100x outcomes, and said both the Chinese and U.S. markets now offer a wide range of AI targets to identify.
