Japanese convenience store chain Lawson will pilot JPYC stablecoin payments at a Tokyo location in early August. This marks Japan's first stablecoin payment test directly integrated with a POS system. Customers will use a smartphone e-wallet to scan a QR code for transactions. Hashport will provide technical support for the wallet, and payment data will be integrated into Lawson's store management system to track product quantities and transaction details. The trial aims to assess the stability of the POS integration before potential expansion. JPYC is already used in some restaurants and clinics, while Japan's major banks are also exploring stablecoin applications.
