Newly disclosed emails from the U.S. Department of Justice reveal that Jeffrey Epstein invested $3 million in Coinbase's Series C funding round in 2014 through IGO Company LLC. At the time, Coinbase was valued at $400 million. The emails indicate that Coinbase co-founder Fred Ehrsam was aware of the investment and had planned to meet with Epstein. The investment was facilitated by Tether co-founder Brock Pierce and his venture capital firm, Blockchain Capital. While Blockchain Capital stated it did not directly accept Epstein's investment, Justice Department documents confirm the purchase of Coinbase equity in its asset inventory. Epstein, a convicted sex offender since 2008, has drawn attention for his investment activities. As of now, Coinbase's market capitalization stands at $51 billion, and the company has not yet commented on the matter.
